I have a small testimony of the importance of social media. I write devotionals and leave them on the ministries facebook once a week. After putting the devotionals up on the page I would get little to no traffic, and I honestly started to be discouraged from the idea of social media improving the ministries reach. One week after uploading the devotion, I received three personal emails from people who I never expected to here from. The three emails both encouraged me to keep writing because it was of great impact to their lives to read the devotions. Glory be to God that the amount of traffic to the devotionals has nearly doubled and soon our ministry will launch a website. I hope to get the twitter up and running soon. Thank you for this great e-book.

Thanks swampboy (gotta learn the significance of that name). Your insights are spot-on! Just like any conversation, those who really shine are those who think of others (RTweets) and share valuable information that is helpful and resourceful. In balance, Twitter allows for some self-promotion, but the conversation takes on a higher purpose for ministries and churches when you extend your voice by looking to the interests of others first!

Interesting. Though I'm still on the fence personally about Twitter, I do like the approach John Piper is taking. http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Tast.... I've also actually found good use of Twitter over the last few months when Google went down. First place I turned to learn more was Twitter due to its immediacy. But an intentional approach that avoids much of the "metooism" that exists around utilizing social media (including Twitter) is certainly a good idea. If you can follow that by introducing a "Getting Things Done" system geared for social media you might knock it out of the park.
